I've been reading this collection of short stories that I picked up outside the commie bookstore for a dollar. I really dig. It's surreal and very Japanese, kind of like Murakami. But it's also down-to-earth and contains lots of non-fictional information - kind of like W.G. Sebald. Some of the stories are based on true-life characters, others on caricatures that seem like extrapolations of the author's personality. I think you'd particularly like the second one, "The Laughingstock", Dallin. It's pretty intense, made me think of you and your writing.
